On 6 June 2025, we awarded the US lawyer Rachel Cohen the Konrad Redeker Prize for the Rule of Law, Attitude and Resilience.
Since the beginning of the year, the legal profession and judiciary in the USA have been subject to increased political interference and attempts at intimidation. While some law firms, under pressure from the government, concluded “deals” in which they undertook to provide free legal advice for the interests of the new government, among other things, Rachel Cohen decided to take a different path: she left her law firm and publicly drew attention to the dangers that such agreements pose for the rule of law.
“Rachel Cohen's courage, attitude and commitment have contributed to the formation of broad and open resistance to the US administration's attacks on the legal profession,” said Dr Roya Sangi, Máster en Filosofía Política, partner in our firm, explaining the choice of the award winner.
