Bonn, 17 December 2025. After 39 years working as a lawyer, Gernot Lehr will be stepping down and retiring from his partnership at Redeker Sellner Dahs and his day‑to‑day practice on 1 January 2026. He will continue to support the media law team as an advisor and in special cases. Gernot Lehr, who began working for the firm as far back as during his legal clerkship, set up Redeker Sellner Dahs´ media law practice and has played a key role in establishing the outstanding repute that the team, now made up of six members, enjoys today.
In the words of Dr Christian Mensching, LL.M. (Columbia), who together with Gernot Lehr has headed the media law practice for several years: “Gernot Lehr has played a pivotal role in the field of media law for decades now – both through his commitment to his clients in numerous cases, many of which were very much in the public limelight, and by virtue of his contributions and commitment in the academic sphere. He has acted as counsel in numerous landmark decisions handed down by the High Courts, inter alia the German Constitutional Court – rulings which have fundamentally shaped the German legal and regulatory media landscape as we know it today. I have learned a great deal from him, and working with him has always been and remains a tremendous privilege.”
Hans‑Peter Hoh, Chairman of the Management Committee, found these words: “Gernot Lehr elevated media law in our firm to its lofty standing. His achievements at the same time go far and above his practice as a lawyer. We are deeply grateful to him for his work and trusting collaboration. By the same token, we are delighted that our partner Christian Mensching, a distinguished and well‑established media lawyer, will be taking over at the helm of our formidable and experienced media law team and will continue to steer the strategic development of the practice.”
