Bonn, 9 March 2026. Malteser Deutschland gemeinnützige GmbH has acquired the stakes held by Evangelisch‑Lutherische Diakonissenanstalt zu Flensburg in DIAKO Krankenhaus gGmbH and Fördeklinikum Katharinen‑Hospital gemeinnützige GmbH. The transaction was finalised at the beginning of this month.
Redeker Sellner Dahs law firm provided legal support to Malteser Deutschland at every stage of the transaction – all the way from the review and drafting of the share purchase agreement to the successful closing. “Especially in the healthcare sector transactions require a high degree of coordination, regulatory proficiency, trust and confidence from all stakeholders. Diako Hospital in Flensburg, with its rich tradition, founded back in 1874, has been operated by DIAKO Krankenhaus gGmbH since 2021.
Fördeklinikum Katharinen‑Hospital gemeinnützige GmbH is a project being jointly carried out by Malteser and Diakonissenanstalt whose aim and objective is to amalgamate the present‑day hospitals in Flensburg – Malteser Krankenhaus St. Franziskus‑Hospital and Diako Hospital – in a new building. The Malteser have now taken over as the sole operator of Fördeklinikum, planned for completion in 2030.
By assuming this responsibility, Malteser is doubling down on its commitment to sustainable and viable medical care in Schleswig‑Holstein going forward.
“The pooling and consolidation of existing hospital structures under one operator reflects the structural change ongoing in the healthcare system. Such projects require not only watertight legal planning and execution, but also a thorough understanding of the positioning and structure of the operator,” is how Hans‑Peter Hoh, partner and chairman of the firm's management committee, sums up the transaction.
